Whern I run LoadModule. I get "Stderr: Cant open 'data/local/vision_oc.ko"

I have temp rooted, the file IS in data/local. I edited the script to have both /data/local and data/local.
Is it that the file doesnt have r+e permissions, even though temp root is on, and gscript asked for and received SU permissions?

Or am I just being a total noob?

Using governor and 1459MHz. Think unstable for me. When I am watching videos via internet browser, it somtimes absolutely freeze!!. Then i must remove battery and turn the phone back on. Any idea why? Can´t increasing a little bit of voltage help? This is happening only after about 20 minutes of full cpu usage like playing games before. Sorry for my english.

Increasing the vcore would probably help. But on the flip side, your processor will run hotter, and the likely hood of your CPU failing early increases.
How long it would take to die? I dont know.
But most people are on a 2 year contract. if my i7 920 dies in two years, thats not a problem, if my DHD was to die within 2 years, well. Id be pissed, but least Id have an excuse to buy a better one.

Decission is yours, but remember, raising vcore COULD kill your CPU.

Also, as its locking up after 20 minutes playing a game, are you sure its not overheating?

I don´t want to do it myself. I was giving it as a proposal to think about it. And of course, not to increase the voltage double, maybe to 110mV? Now testing not overclocked in quadrant standard... Without overclock score was 1951. Without overclock but with governor it was 2027. So, governor maybe works?!

Im getting "permission denied" error when trying this method. I can push the cpugiv.ko file but as soon as i try typoing "insmod /data/local..." it returns the error. I am rooted with Visionary and after this error, I opened Visionary up and it confirmed that I am "already rooted" and I still get the access error?

Update: Definately need to sort out this scaling issue, battery is draining fast with it! Hopefull that this new cpugov.ko will solve it. I can see that its been pushed to the /data/local folder but becuase I cant do the next stafe in the above instructions there is no Governor option in SetCPU

Anyone any suggestions how I can get this Governor option available? Im getting the error when trying it with adb, is there an alternative method of achieving this or does anyone know of why Im getting permission denied when entering the insmod command?

Would be highly appreciated, I love the extra speed but the scaling not working correctly causing it to run at 1440 more than 245 is killing my battery more than it should!

this is mostly caused by wrong version of kernel and module. whats your kernel version ?

Thanks for the reply. My kernel version is GF3F553D and am trying to do the method in post 120 with the kernel from 72. Is this correct, if not could you lead me to the files I need? Cheers

that both should be correct versions...
try it againt from the scratch after rebooting the phone...

Thanks. Do we use the new govenor cpugov.ko file instead of the vision_oc.ko or use them both?

Heres what I have been doing:

1. Placing 1440-100.sh, cpoc.sh, noreboot.sh and oshitttt.sh in the gscript folder of SD.
2. Placing vision_oc.ko in root of SD Card.

I successfully overclocked following the guide I watched on Youtube of the G2 but now can't figure how to incorporate this cpugov.ko file without using ADB or atleast not sure on why I get permission denied when typing the insmod command. Can I use this cpugov.ko file in gscript?

Sorry for the confusion here and appreciate the help!

Update: Managed to complete that final command (insmod etc) using terminal emulator and it has added an scaling option "interactive" in SetCPU. Is this the governor, or should it say governor? lol it still seems to be jumping from the min to max speeds a bit too much, staying at max more than min causing excessive battery drain.

I've managed to get my DHD to run at 1459 with the gscripts (which im really pleased with) but when i put the visionary.sh file in data/local it has not effect after the phone has booted.

What exactly needs to be in the visionary.sh file for it to run from boot at 1459?

Thanks
Mike

Are you using the governor provided a few pages back? If so, when you go to the info tab in SetCPU, does the frequency keep changing frrom the min to max repeatedly every few seconds? trying to establish if this is normal

Yeah it is.. seems a bit weird

Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Hmmm so is everyone else experiencing this? My battery is draining alot more after overclocking due to this scaling issue and so I'm tempted to settle for stock speed until it could be resolved.

Unless anyone has any suggestions?

it seems to me, like there is some background service/app running, which consumes too much of CPU power.

btw. tomorrow i plan to build new governor (from HTC Hero) for DHD...
here is info about it :

smartass governor - is based on the concept of the interactive governor.
I have always agreed that in theory the way interactive works - by taking over the idle loop - is very attractive. I have never managed to tweak it so it would behave decently in real life. Smartass is a complete rewrite of the code plus more. I think its a success. Performance is on par with the "old" minmax and I think smartass is a bit more responsive. Battery life is hard to quantify precisely but it does spend much more time at the lower frequencies.

Ahh this sounds promising to me! Like you say it needs to not react to little processes and only up the frequency for higher demanding tasks. I think for now I may undo the overclock and keep it at stock or perhaps Ill just stick it out and await to try out this new governor :)

Many thanks for the response!

Hi all, i've got my dhd with root and visionary set to start on boot.

Just wanted to say a big thanks to all of you for picking each others brains to come up with a solid root and overclock, I appreciate it and i'm sure others do.

From what i've been reading, would copying from a similar devices root and overclock procedure not help? like the desire or evo? I heard that the evo was a similar handset to the desire hd?

Just a suggestion from camp noob.

Good luck with it all anyway.

Finally I got my DHD on 1440 Mhz....

/me thanks kamma & Thyrus for the clear instructions posted.

Setcpu did not get SU rights immediately btw.
I also had to do 1 reboot as I believe the phone froze the 1st time (could be because I forgot to run the noreboot script)....
now clocked at 1440.

No problems so far.
Current quadrant score: 2403
Not using the governor option yet.

***Edit***UPDATE
I have now clocked it at 1459mhz, the Quadrant output is 2676 :p

interactive governor - better performance
-------------------

i compiled new interactive governor for latest kernel.
if you know, what are you doing, than you can try it.

for me it works perfectly.

steps are similar to oc.

1. adb push cpugov.ko /data/local
2. adb shell
3. su
4. insmod /data/local/cpugov.ko
5. select governor in SetCpu - "Scaling" drop-down

Thanks for this it works perfectly (using it without any OC cause i think the device is fast enough for me already), but is it also possible to make a module for the powersave govenor so the cpu won't scale with screen off for example.
