Important: Read this whole post before reporting an issue! ;)

New: I will not offer new complete ROMs anymore! Instead I will offer 2 differenz ZIP-files you can use to 1) apply the visible modifications and 2) apply the Navigon-fix! Look at the end of the post!

Even more important: Since Google-Apps are not Open Source and may not be published without Google's agreement, I will now distribute this ROM without Google-Apps. Anyway, this will not mean you have to work without Google-Apps! This ROM has included Cyanogen's backup-script and automatically backs up the Google-Apps that are existing on your phone before flashing, then flashes the ROM and finally restores the Google-Apps from the backup. All without you even noticing! This preserves your existing Google-Apps and is legal!

To install this ROM properly just follow the following steps:
First of all you will need ClockworkMod 3.x in order to get/preserve working Google-Apps. You can install it using ROM Manager.

If you already have installed an earlyer version of this ROM and you have working Google-Apps on your Phone:
Just flash the update.zip without wiping anything except of CACHE (you don't absolutely need to wipe CACHE, but it is recommended to avoid bugs)! If you want to wipe more, only wipe DATA, CACHE and/or dalvik cache. DO NOT wipe/format SYSTEM! This is done automatically, preserving Google-Apps stored in SYSTEM! DO NOT use FullWipe.zip!

If you use another ROM with working Google-Apps:
Perform a nandroid backup! Then peform a wipe of DATA (factory-reset) and probably CACHE and/or davlik cache, but DO NOT wipe SYSTEM (i.e. by FullWipe.zip). Then flash this ROM. If Google-Apps should not work properly, please try the next step.

If your GApps don't work or you don't have a ROM with installed GApps:
Perform a nandroid backup! Then in CWM 3.x go to "mounts and storage" and then "format SYSTEM". After that flash this ROM and finally flash a Gingerbread-GApps-Package you can find somewhere over the internet. (Look here) If you didn't use an earlyer version of this ROM before, please format SYSTEM and also wipe DATA (factory-reset) before flashing. (You can do it with a FullWipe.zip). The next time you flash an update, you can just follow the first method.

Hi!

Now there are official Release Candidates of CM7 available - great!

But there are several things I don't like about them: It's not "Nexus S Android", it uses ADW-Launcher instead of Launcher2, it doesn't have Nexus S Live-Wallpaper and there is a keyboard-bug, which still makes the keyboard a little too small.

Because of this I will now repack CyanogenMod 7 Releases to perfectly fit my own requirements. From time to time I will upload one, so that anyone who likes can also use them.

The aim of this ROM is to look and feel like the original Nexus S ROM, but offering the enhanced functionality of CyanogenMod 7.

Changes I made:
  • Replaced ADW-Launcher by the original Gingerbread-Launcher2 (Hint: This launcher has no issues, it's just normal, that Launcher2 only uses portrait-mode and that you cannot change it's number of 5 homescreens!)
[*]Modified build.prop to fix the keyboard (now it has the correct size) (only until RC1 #1)
  • Removed Cyanogen Wallpapers
  • Inserted Nexus S Live-Wallpaper
  • Removed OI File-Manager (I only use Root Explorer)
[*]Removed ThemeChooser integrated by Cyanogen since Nightly #8 (reinserted since RC1 #3)
  • Fixed Navigon-Issue (since #20a)
Except of this, it's original CyanogenMod 7!
If you want to have Naxus S Bootanimation, just replace /system/media/bootanimation.zip with the one you will find in this forum!

Changelog (Versions):

  • Built from the newest CM7-Nightly #15
  • Removed Google-Apps from the package. Have a look at the top of this post for more information!

CM 7.0.0 RC1 #3:
  • Removed build.prop-keyboard-tweak, because since RC1 it has a good size by default
  • reinserted ThemeChooser because of popular request

Known Issues:
  • Sometimes WiFi doesn't work after the first boot after flashing the ROM. Just reboot, then it will be fine.

General handling of issues:
If any issues should occur, please reboot the phone at least one time. If it doesn't help, you need to wipe!
If you upgrade from CM6 or any other ROM (except earlier CM7-Versions) you need to wipe. Otherwise you will probably get forced closes etc.
I do visible, but nevertheless only small changes to the ROM, so most of the issues come from CyanogenMod itself.
So if you're facing an issue, you may want to have a look at this Thread: [NIGHTLY][ROM][GRH78] CyanogenMod 7 for vendor Ace (HTC Desire HD)
And always remember, that CM7 hasn't even reached the release candidate state yet.

Switching between different releases of this ROM will work without a wipe!

Hi, you won't need to wipe if you already use Nightly #3. But you will need to sort your launcher-icons again. ;)

@raniop: Just open /system/build.prop with an editor and add the line:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=240

That's it! :)

I've got fairly large hands but the smaller keyboard seemed more accurate. I don't know if it's a tweak in how it works or if I was being more careful due to the size but that's what I found. I like the blue Nexus live wallpaper better than stock, the original reminds me of lego too much and blocky for it. With that said I'm glad someone has packaged the full thing up so I don't need to flash the unfinished cwm3 recovery.

Can you post locations of the wallpapers? I've got a rough idea and I'm going to tweak it a little to suit myself if I'm right but it'd be nice if others want to remove or add their own before flashing :)

Maybe, but originally the keyboard should have the larger size. My fix only sets the keyboard's lcd-density to the correct value.

[GUIDE] How to flash CWM 3.0.0.5 and new radio?

Here is a litte guide for using fastboot:

First of all you need the newest Android-SDK. You get this here

After installation (or extracting for Mac/Linux) copy fastboot into the "tools"-folder. You get this here

Your phone needs Engineering HBoot, have a look here

Now download CMW 3.0.0.5 into your tools-folder.

Now reboot your phone into the Bootloader, plug in USB and on your PC switch to Terminal/Command. Change into the tools-folder.

    In terminal type:
    fastboot-mac flash recovery ace-cwm-3.0.0.5.img
    and press enter.
(If your using windows it's just fastboot and on linux it's fastboot-linux.

You can flash a radio by copying a radio.img into the tools-folder and type
    fastboot-mac flash radio radio.img

    Good luck! :)

    Just released #25! :)

It seems to be important to wipe CACHE when updating to #25! During testing I had the issue, that when switching off screen-lock and switching it on again, the lock-screen didn't appear anymore. Only a reboot helped, but after turning it off and on again, it was the same. So I wiped CACHE and after that it finally worked! Looks like Cyanogen has modified something with it. :)

OK, so since flashing RC1, my GPS is totally broken......even if I go back to Nightly ROM #37 for example, it is still broken.

Idiot-proof guidelines would be appreciated as I don't quite get the earlier instruction

Extract the file gps.spade.so from the #34 nightly (Winrar, Winzip...) and put it on
    your sdcard.
Use the "es file explorer" or "root explorer"..., navigate to the path /system/lib/hw/ (of your phone),
mount this path as writable (under options), erase the "old" gps.spade.so and replace the file with the one stored at your sdcard (e.g. via copy/paste).
    This worked for me.
