That's very bad. Flaky lock screen is not good, and the example of not being able to scroll through apps without it running one is a killer. There are many times when scrolling through a list of selectable items is necessary.

Are you going to exchange the phone?

Have my hopes set on the Sensation, so would really like to find out what the resolution is.

Today is a bank holiday in Ireland so I was unable to contact HTC, but I will get in touch with them tomorrow about this.

I made a video about the issue here, where you can see that the touchscreen problems do indeed persist after unlocking. Especially when typing and scrolling.

I think you are moving you finger too quickly and tap the screen too fast. Same things happen to me before i had my ds and i was playing with a friends dh. After a little practice screen was working just fine. I operate both phones in the same position you are doing in yr movie. Try a bit smoother moves and a biit longer taps and see what is happening.

I have had no problems with swiping speed on a number of other devices, including old ones with ARM11 processors. I can unlock my Nexus One 100% of the time at the same speed. I don't see why I should change my behaviour on a phone that ostensibly should be better, not worse.

Sensation issue

My own HTC sensation is also experiencing the problems described in this thread. It started a week after I got the phone. Unlocking the touchscreen with a soft swift motion stopped working properly and I also experience issues with typing and sometimes with browsing trough the widgets. Its the worsed when the phone is lying on a flat surface. It doesnt matter how hard, soft, fast, or slow I press or swipe, the unlockring just responds choppy. I also noticed I can't use the fast rotating carousel function on my Sensation anymore. I just can't make the carousel rotate fast enough to switch to the small spinning version.

When I hold the phone in my hand it does work better, but still with some issues described above. I've tried a soft reset and hard reset. It fixed the issue for a few days but eventually came back and this time won't go away with any reset. I'm very curious to when HTC wil come with an official message to fix the problem.

I posted in this thread before, with similar issues.

I solved it on my Sensation. I uninstalled launcherpro and all other alternative launchers. Launcherpro was giving me strange issues. Weirdest part was that *after* I uninstalled laucnher pro I could still briefly see the launcher pro home screen after unlocking the phone (restart solved this).

I restarted and my touch input has been great. No lag or problems with input, not even when the phone is lying down. Don't forget to reboot using the reboot option in the power menu, you need a full reboot - not the quick shutdown.

Give it a try. Now I have to learn to live with Sense ;) I'll manage

I experienced it with ADW Ex and still experience it now with the stock Sense after a full factory reset and reboot.

Enjoy your honeymoon period, it'll be back ;)

Thanks for the advice but I don't have alternative launchers installed and never had another either. The config i'm experiencing problems with is HTC Sense with out of the box factory default software.

Also i've made a support case at HTC with the question whats best for the moment. Going back to the retailer, exchanging the phone, with the risk i'll get the same problem again. Or wait for an update from HTC. I'll post the answer when I receive it.

I noticed it first after a couple of days at the weekend, getting worse by the day now.

Scrolling through apps it registers a push instead of a swipe and annoyingly opens one by mistake.

Lock screen is becoming a 2 or 3 try unlock.

Lots of pushes registered instead of swipes in daily operation.

Just been using Stock Sense since purchase.

It started happening to me too today. I tweeted HTC about it and they came back to me asking me details of what happened. I tweeted them back with details and a link to this tread. I am now waiting for an answer.

Are you guys using a case for your phone? I ask this because I bought a gel case and the lockscreen issue started to happen right after I put in on the phone.

I am gonna keep you posted as it goes.

Well I got an answer from HTC. In the netherlands the issue isn't known yet at HTC support, so they recommended me to exchange my phone with a new one. When I get the same problem again, i've agreed to contact them again with a specific case number so they can escalate it further. I'm feeling a bit like a test subject now. :p But for all the dutch people that have the same problem. Just mension this case (11NLCW24NLA000465) when contacting HTC. The more we'll do that the more the'll notice its not just a one person / one phone problem.

Both my evo and my g2 had a grounding issue, for example if I had the phone laying down on the couch or bed, the screen would not respond to touch but if touch the phone with a finger and try to unlock it with my other hand it would work normally. So it seems to be a common problem with some HTC devices

I did some testing and it certainly seems a grounding issue. In this video on the successful attempt at opening the lockscreen I am touching the unibody aluminium case on the side in the middle.

After looking at your video it appears to be some type of grounding issue. I guess the phone functions best when in your hand. I wonder if a case will fix the problem.

It happens very often in the hand too, just easier to illustrate the possible cause with it flat on a table. It often takes me three or more attempts to open the lockscreen, and often opens apps when scrolling the list. Its very annoying and if it can't be resolved the phone will have to go.

Is it possible that the area where the buttons are is dirty? Because that whole area is touch sensitive so it may be thinking you are touching that area while touching the screen. I haven't had this problem yet but see my video to understand what I'm saying. http://www.youtube.com/embed/S4MRjmbAPcwsorry for the quality shot with my HP Veer

No that area is spotless. It seems to work fine when gripped in one hand using the thumb on the same hand to unlock per your vid, gets a bit sketchy when its held in one hand and attempts to unlock from the other. I love this phone and bought it as I had a great experience with my Desire, and intensely dislike the plastic iphone styling of the SGS1/2. This sporadic unresponsive touchscreen issue is very annoying though, would be nice to have HTC recognise it and offer a go forward plan for resolution.

I am having the exact same problem, for example on the lock screen I would swipe up but the ring will move slightly, and one icon I.e the camera icon will move towards the ring, another grip which is buggin me is that it will miss screen taps, I.e when texting or clicking an icon one tap will go unnoticed by the device resulting in either a missed letter, or the app not opening. This also goes for the 4 command buttons at the bottom, it happens on these too. I also get the occasional lock up.

    Factory reset did not work

a little off topic (no screen issues so far )want to ask if anyone else has had this problem..

sometimes when lets say i am the market (example) and i exit to the homescreen i for some reason get the HTC symbol (the screen goes white )and then it reloads to the home screen

what is that about. also i hate that silly intro music it plays when you open it, anyway to get rid of it?

yes it's happened to me .Are you using the weather live wallpaper? If so reselect it from the wallpaper menu, go into the settings menu, turn off sounds, then apply it. This will stop the sound, but I don't know what the white HTC screen is about.
