Fugu is super fast for me....faster than speedmod for some reason. Maybe its jfs: -)

i am a fan of fugu too.. it took me very long time to decide what rom to use (first it was jvh and jvo, then it was deodexed and odexed and the conclusion is jvh deodexed) then now i am trying to decide between fugumod and speedmod.. but i am using fugumod with ext4.. maybe thats why its slower on loading screens..

For the moment you can substitute some missing features of speedmod with apps:
Tegrak overclock
Sd speed increase
Voodoo sound app

But you have to pay for some if you cant wait! -)

I have those three working flawlessly here.

On my Galaxy S increasing the read cache of the sd card does not improve performance at all. All values above 128 only have placebo effect on my sd card (Transcend class 10 16GB).

I have a class 10 16GB as well and can't "feel" any differnce after changing that cache but i haven't measured anything... Maybe somebody wants to test further on... ;)

How much does Deep sleep improve battery life? Is it significant?

I'm asking cause i'm testing stock jph kernel (just came from your kernel with deep sleep) and it seems (from what I've read in this topic, and my own test with cpu spy) that samsung have disabled it in stock kernels.

hardcore,

is your kernel is built on the latest source by samsung? if im not mistaken, the GB roms out there got a front face camera problem in apps like fring or tango and the latest kernels already got fix for that. is your kernel included too? i'm sorry if im asking in a wrong thread, but im still sticking with froyo rom and your K13E kernel. thanks.

@hardcore

Thanks for your wonderful kernel. I used your froyo kernel before and I'm using the GB version now.

When will you add the option to enable/disable for android logging in recovery menu?

Can you try your benchmark with Talon kernel? :)

Those results are amazing!! I think I've chosen the correct kernel for my phone

Benchmarks are imho not reliable at all. I had some kernel with quadrant scores near 3000 but lagged like hell. Speedmod, fugu, and talondevs have similar scores and are all very good kernels, its just personal preference, which one you pick.

Of course you are right. Still using different benchmarks can give you an idea which configuration is good for your needs. I guess Antutu as well as Quadrant provide a rather good estimate of the overall system performance.
During real usage I notice a few tiny hangs with Speedmod on 3D apps which did not occur using the other two kernels.

In general you can say either one of these three kernels works pretty well in terms of performance. So far I have no experience with battery life on Speedmod and DardCore. With Voodoo battery life is very good, however.

@Hardcore

is it possible to support EXT2.

I ask because on Froyo i think EXT2 was faster than EXT4

Hey hardcore, what do you think about posting some sort of "roadmap" or "to do list" to prevent people from posting the same questions over and over again. It might keep this thread a bit cleaner if everybody can see, what's planned or not.
Just an idea ...

    Hi guys,

This is the SpeedMod kernel for Gingerbread.

    SpeedMod's core features are:
    - Super stable: No undervolting, overclocking or potentially unstable modifications
    - Fast and smooth: Compiler and code optimizations
    - Excellent battery life: Remove unecessary logging and debugging

The K16 series works on older Samsung 2.3.x roms.
The K17 series only works with the latest Samsung "Value Pack" 2.3.6 ROMs like XXJW4 / XWJW8.

    >>> CLICK HERE for the Frequently Asked Questions list.

This kernel is for the International Galaxy S GT-I9000

This kernel has only EXT4 LAGFIX support. Please UNDO OTHER LAGFIXES before flashing this kernel.

    Current features:
    - Neutral / Cold (+Blue) / Warm (+Yellow) screen color options
    - Bootanimation support (ROM support required)
    - RFS / EXT4 filesystem conversion and unfragmentation support in CWM
    - CPU governor tweaks: increase responsiveness
    - CWM2.5-based recovery
    - MDNIE Sharpness fix for Pentile matrix and color tuning
    - FM Radio sound fixes based on Voodoo Sound
    - TinyRCU
    - Volume level fixes
    - IO and read_ahead tweaks
    - Disabled Android Debug Logger / logcat
    - Disabled kernel debug logs / printk
    - Updated to jhash3
    - 364MB RAM (K17 series)
    - Improvements to sound quality: 128x oversampling, disable DRC and de-emphasis
    - Microphone recording levels using Voodoo Sound "Balanced" preset
    - Compiled with optimizations using Linaro toolchain
    - init.d, CIFS, TUN, IPV6 Privacy support

Source code and related files are in the 2nd post.

    NOTES about CWM:

Wow, it happens that I live in a different timezone, wake up to see about a hundred posts debating about GPL and the thread is locked.

That was a bit too much politic-ing for comfort, imo.

Let me just make my points:

    1. It's been less than 24 hours since the first "demand" for source code was posted. I don't check XDA forums all day - I still go out, sleep and generally do other stuff. I think we should not over-react within such a short period of time, taking into account this website has a global audience living in different timezones and people here have a life outside of the forums.

    2. The Gingerbread version of my kernel is still a test release, I've barely been using it for 2 days and there have been bugs. I normally only release the source to a new version when it's out of the testing phase.

    3. The sources for the Froyo version are published, and whenever I have free time I will try to port over the code bit by bit. If other devs really want to know what I am doing the Froyo sources are available. I will be more than happy to explain certain changes I've made, time-willing and if asked politely.

I'd like to thank the people who understood the situation and tried to explain it. Let's move on and get back to the usual business of kernel hacking. :)

    K16-10:
    - Scheduler patched and tweaks adjusted
    - Cleanup to kernel configs

This version is much smoother than previous ones. :)
