Was surfing around on androlib.com looking for apps and found "Instant Root" on the "newest apps" tab... apparently it gives you instant root access..

I know there are root threads out there, but since this(as far as i know) is a new way to root your phone(since its in the newest apps tab) I thought it might was worth a own thread?

Anyhow, anyone tried this? good/bad?

zsh: correct 'shell' to 'Shell' [nyae]? n
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
$ su -
# pwd
/
# whoami
whoami: not found
# who

...i cannot get it undone... :/

I dont think that this is a proper way to root.

after reflashing hero to undo this all of the sudden it starts downloading itself after I boot up in recovery.

Not ok at all I think.

I understand that if you have an unlocked Hero, you do not have access to paid apps on the Market. I have always avoided rooting as I didn't know if it would stop me doing any more official updates (I don't care too much about the warrentee) and wondered whether this also would cause me to loose paid apps (that I really need for work)? Can anyone shed light on this (sorry for noob question)

As far as I'm aware, there is no known process to root the Sprint Hero right now. It will probably come, but it is early days.

Which is quite unfortunate. But with Android, there's still plenty you can do without root.

The only way so far to root a GSM hero is to do a CID unlock (gold card method) and flash an official rom (2.73.405.5 WWE) with the kernel exploit, then you can root using instantroot.

Wait, what? Has someone actually tried this and it works? I thought flashing a SPL/radio from a GSM ROM would brick the CDMA Hero?
