Hello
My 02 UK xda 2s is coming upto the end of its years warranty i just wondered who you all use after this event, do you insure your phones or extend your warranty ? for accidental damage etc.

as like most it would be expensive to replace this item.

cheers

its working because of liblights added by devs. last time this app works properly was on 5.0.x on my xperia s. during 5.1 roms this app was not working anymore

    Hi,

I created an app that will let an Xperia S/P/U light up the illumination bar when there is an unread SMS or a missed call.

Available at Google Play if you search for "Illumination Bar Notification"
    link

For U model there is multi color support, and for S/P there is only the one color supported by the hardware.

The LEDs can either blink at various speeds or have a constant light.
There is an option to stop the light when the screen is unlocked or keep blinking until the SMS has been read or the call has been acknowledged.

I have only an Xperia U to develop on, but it has been tried on S/P as well.
If you have any problems let me know and I'll try to fix it.

Thanks to user sl1nk3 that figured out there was an API we can use.

*** Running on custom ROMs ***

If you run CyanogenMod or other firmware not from sony you may need to install additional libraries for this app to work.

    First option: IlluminationReceiver
This solution works for all devices with illumination bar (S/P/U/SP) and does not require any sony libs at all:

Oh yes that's true I get confused between receiver and bar notification app sorry
So are you going to add support for xp and cm11 too?

Try this version of IlluminationReceiver and let me know if it works.

I have not tried it myself since I dont have CM on my SP, but I think it should work.

New version of IlluminationReceiver to fix the problem with "Softkey backlight always on" blinking

I tried a different approach to solving the custom rom compatibility problem.

I reimplemented the functionality in SemcIllumination.apk and made it write directly to the LEDs.
This way it is independent of any light libs, which means there is no need for any sony libs at all, and it should work for all roms.
All it needs is root to write to the LEDs.

It also works for all three models. It tries to detect S, P or U, but you probably want to verify that it is correct after install

It lacks a few features but should be good enough for notifications at least.
Specifically it lacks setting the theme color. If anyone knows how that color can be set on CM9 I can probably add that too.
Also it does not fade the lights. It's only on/off.

Install it to a clean rom that does not have the sony libs. Most importantly you should not have SemcIllumination.apk installed as they may conflict.

Once it is installed you should not have to install it again after upgrades (unless you wipe it of course...)

Please give it a try and see if it feels like a good solution. Especially feedback for S/P would be good since I have not tried that myself. I only ran it on Xperia U CM9

    Edit:
To clarify: IlluminationReceiver.apk does not replace Illumination Bar Notification. You need to have both installed.

What Illumination Receiver does is replace all the sony libs used in the previous fixes.
That means other apps that use the illumination framework will also start working when you install Illumination Receiver. I'm not sure but I think that includes Sonys music player and image viewer.

Ok now everything should work like in stock, power led, brightness and the ledbar doesn't glow when you touch the screen

Just flash it in cwm and let me know. this is for xperia-u and fxp 201+ only don't try it on anything else unless you know what you are doing
