Hi - I also just wanted to thank you guys for curing my Galaxy s2 :) A few days ago it started acting crazy and I barely had any idea how to describe its behaviour, but of course there was already a long xda thread describing the problem in exact details, and finding the solution. In my case, though, I only needed to use a dry brush and remove a piece of dust, from what I could tell, from the usb port. So this might explain why some of you seem to have had this 'epileptic-zombie' disease even without exposing your phone to moist. And it just emphasizes what a blatant design flaw this is - any phone's usb port (if not covered) will eventually end up a bit dusty.. Anyway, now we know what to do :)

I have the same problem with my Galaxy S2. It started like a week ago or something. I tried to upgrade the firmware to the latest, but it seemed like that only made it worse. I haven't rooted my phone, so I'm obviously using the stock rom. Any tips to what I should try to do? It's a really annoying problem.

Car mode is triggered by a certain resistance value between pin 4 and 5 on micro usb plug, either dirt, oil, sweat on exterior part of it (most likely) or some condensation/oil on the inner part- where it's soldered to the the mainboard.

My advice would be to take out the battery and try to clean it with small brush, contact spray ( make sure it dries out before attaching the battery)....or go to a phone repair center to have the plug cleaned...
    it should do the trick

    thanks..

idk about that .. i mean i'v seen alot of members have the same problem!!
those problems came all at once .. do you meen that there is something wrong in samsung factory that causes this problem?
well actually this is a big mistake that samsung made .. if that's true
im in truble couse i ordered this device from spain and i live in saudi arabia ,, its gonna be so hard to return it back there :l
i wish it still a software problem !

Like I said, you can't rule out a software issue, but it sounds more likely that there's a physical problem with the USB port and it's making the phone think it's in car mode every now and then. If it were a software issue then I think we'd see a LOT more people with the issue. When you think about how many SGS2 users there are on XDA, and compare that to the number of people who have had this issue you'll see that it's a tiny number really. That definitely sounds more like a manufacturing issue than a software one.

i agree with you actually .. it seems like a hardware problem .. not a software one cuz i literally changed everything on the device .. kernel, rom everything .. but hardware !
let's wish that it's a software problem even if we were 99% sure that it's a hardwore issue ...
    thanks again ..

Absolutely! I wish you luck mate.

I solved it for my phone. Hope this helps somebody:
I fixed it on my phone:
Reading http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1132588 gave me the idea of cleaning the microUSB port. Of course with the battery removed. I also saw someone having the same problem with a HTC-phone so i guessed it couldn't be a software issue.
I used a non-conducting spray for cleaning electrical wiring (ask for Contact Cleaner), that removes oxidation from electrical contacts and such. I guess one could use Isopropyl Alcohol (from a pharmacy) as well, but i think the contact cleaner is better at removing oxide (reminds me of a less oily wd40).

I used a sharpened toothpick (soaked in spray) to clean the microUSB port but i guess you could soak something like small brush as well (toothbrush?). Once cleaned i let a small droplet fall inside just for good measure.

After a couple of minutes letting the liquid evaporate, i booted my phone to see the bug completely GONE.

The phone has not been in direct contact with water, more than regular humidity, and once or twice in the bathroom while i took a shower. This proves to me that regular use could in fact produce this bug by messing up the microUSB port. And that Galaxy S had an excellent solution by providing a sliding cover.

I was having major problems with my galaxy s2 for weeks such as the ones in OP's post. I gave the micro usb plug a good clean out with a toothbrush, pressing it fairly hard inside. I then gave it a dab with a damp cotton wool bud. Phone is running perfectly fine now :)
    Problems I had were
    • Driving Mode randomly activating.
    • Voice Talk randomly activating.
    • Phone freezing when pressing power button to lock the phone. (most annoying)
    • Loud speaker automatically on when answering calls.
    • Keypad sounds and phone lock sounds sometimes not working.
    • USB mode randomly activating.
    • PC unable to read the phone.
Who would of thought a dirty plug could of caused so many problems. Thank you guys.
